How do you start the day? Do you think of the million things on your tasks list, hurry through breakfast (if any?), and rush off to work? Creating some time in the morning for the things that bring you joy can set the tone for the rest of the day.
I wake up 3 hours before I have to leave for work, so I can make time to set my tone. I want my day to be relaxed, happy and full of joy, so I make time for that before my day begins. I especially love my leisurely time drinking coffee and reading silly news and gossip. Whatever it is that makes you happy, make some time for that in the AM. It will make the rest of your day more filled with joy, and more cultivate resilience to handle whatever comes your way.
How do you make Holy water? ....Boil the hell out of it!
This also works for dementia care. People that have cognitive issues have lost the ability to plan out their day and set their own tone, so I try to find ways to help them do that. I like to do exercise with my residents in the morning to help get their blood flowing and body moving, but I also like to tell a few jokes. I am known for telling the absolute best bad jokes. This lightens the mood, connects us, and helps bring joyful energy into everything the rest of the day - for both myself, and them.
What are some things you do to fill your own cup? I would love to hear :)
